The goal of the Sils Pond management plan is to make conservation, public use and flood protection compatible

The Sils Pond management plan was presented to the Sils Town Hall as a tool that will enable it to define and agree upon measures to guarantee the preservation of this space, which is part of the Natura 2000 Network.

This plan is one of the actions in the river stewardship agreement signed last year by the Catalan Water Agency (ACA), the Emys Foundation, the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation and the Sils Town Hall.

The management plan seeks to implement actions and measures that guarantee the conservation of this pond's biodiversity in a way that is compatible with public use (for leisure and education) and protection from extreme weather phenomena such as droughts and floods.

The management area delimited last autumn with the river stewardship agreement includes the permanent lagoon and the surrounding floodable lands (45 hectares) in the town of Sils and 7 kilometres of river courses (Sils channel and Santa Maria stream) in the townships of Caldes de Malavella, Sils and Maçanet de la Selva.

Beyond this directly managed area, the plan also considers the entire drainage basin upriver from the confluence of the Sils channel and the Riera de Vallcanera stream, given that the quantity and quality of water that reaches the Pond has a crucial effect on the objectives of the management plan.
