The exhibition ‘Leopoldo Pomés. Flashback’ opens in Mataró
The Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation and the Iluro Foundation present an anthological exhibition devoted to the Barcelona-based photographer Leopoldo Pomés in Mataró. The exhibition ‘Leopoldo Pomés. Flashback’ was shown for the first time in the La Pedrera exhibition hall in 2015.
The show, which will be on display at the Iluro Foundation's Athenaeum from 22 March to 19 May and is curated by Julià Guillamon, takes a meticulous survey of the vast creative universe of Leopoldo Pomés, from his early days associated with the group Dau al Set until today, with a review of his life course and visual trajectory. Without a doubt, Pomés is one of the indisputable touchstones in contemporary Catalan photography and advertising.
This exhibition is an example of the cooperation and strong relationship between the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation and the Iluro Foundation, which is once again bringing exhibitions shown at La Pedrera to the capital of the Maresme region.
Leopoldo Pomés
Leopoldo Pomés (Barcelona, 1931) is one of the indisputable names in contemporary Catalan photography from the second half of the 20th century. A photographer, publicist, filmmaker, illustrator, poet, businessman and gastronome, throughout his extensive career Pomés has shown a constant passion for the image.
A multifaceted man with an incisive eye and an over-the-top personality with an extraordinary capacity for seduction and an enormous poetic potential, in the late 1950s he became an innovative creator in the field of advertising, which was just then burgeoning in Spain’s early years of post-war development. Since he created Studio Pomés in 1961, he has never stopped combining his passion for photography with his professional work in advertising.
The exhibition
’Leopoldo Pomés. Flashback’ presents 120 photographs, more than 30 advertising spots and a range of graphic documentation which provide a comprehensive retrospective of Pomés’ work: from his early days associated with the group Dau al Set until today, his projects for photography books, the short films and advertising spots he created and produced, his brief incursion into film, his documentary videos, his business ventures in restaurants and his striking photographs.
