The course
The Medicine course from the Crazy about Science programme of the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation is a course developed by Aula Clínic (Clinical Foundation for Biomedical Research) and the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona geared towards 1st year A-Level students interested in careers in medicine. The main objective is for students to learn how to work in a hospital, as well as to foster scientific vocations and promote the knowledge and education of excellence for young people in Catalonia.
Registration for the Medicine course of the Crazy about Science programme will be open from 16 September to 24 October 2019 and among all those enrolled there will be 24 students selected from the 1st year of A-Levels who will participate in the 2nd edition of the course within the 8th edition of the Crazy about Science programme that will take place in 2020.
During 16 theoretical and practical sessions students will get to know closely how one works in a hospital, both in terms of care and research. Students will visit various areas of the Hospital Clínic and will be able to sample how different diseases are diagnosed and approached, and what research is being done to better understand them and obtain more effective treatments to combat them. Other topics include heart disease, liver disease, diabetes, obesity, alcoholism, eye or skin diseases, neuroscience, immunology or cancer.
