The Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation projects reach more than half a million people.
This week, the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation presented its social impact, with more than 500,000 direct beneficiaries of the projects it spearheads. This notable figure is possible thanks to the 1.4 million people who visit La Pedrera, Món Sant Benet and other spaces, whose ticket proceeds provide the Foundation with funding, the only way it can make its facilities profitable. The Foundation's actions made a better and fairer future possible for 502,244 people in 2018
The Foundation works in different areas: providing opportunities for the elderly, children and individuals at risk of social exclusion; fostering the talent, creation and education of youths; promoting healthy eating habits; and conserving, managing and disseminating the natural and cultural heritage. Plus, it does so in a unique way, with quality, seeking excellence and applying innovative formulas.
One of the areas in which the Foundation works which has the greatest impact on society is creating jobs. Through the MANS Cooperative, the Horts de Sant Benet and the Topromi Foundation, 139 people have found job placements These jobs are managed within the context of a sustainable economy geared at producing and selling organically farmed products.
Another of the Foundation's top objectives is improving the quality of life of the elderly. To this end, the Foundation’s 23 Social Spaces located all over Catalonia are the venues for the REMS Programme, which reinforces and stimulates memory and health, in which 1,300 elderly people in situations associated with neurodegenerative diseases participate every day. Also worth highlighting are the 300 people who share a table and food every day in the ‘Eat in Company’ project geared at improving the diet of elderly persons as well as improving their socialisation.
The Foundation also focuses on youths in society: It provides educational assistance to 1,500 children and makes major efforts to promote scientific, artistic and research vocations, directly reaching almost 4,000 youths, many of them before university age.
