Old friends embracing, shared memories and stories and plenty of laughter at the event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Oms i de Prat School held in Manresa this Saturday. “The school is an important part of the community, and there are inquisitive, curious children at Oms who spur us to do everything possible to bring them all opportunities”, said Lluís Farrés, Director of Knowledge and Research at the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation.
“In 50 years, more than 3,000 students have attended this school”, said Gemma Vilaseca, current director, in her opening remarks before the almost 300 audience members, including students, alumni, teachers and people associated with the Oms i de Prat School educational community. Vilaseca took advantage of the occasion to thank everyone for their contributions to the school over the years and announced that a remodelling project will get underway this summer to enlarge the school, which is growing steadily.
The celebration also featured a talk by Dr Rosa Casafont, an expert in the neuroscience of emotion, and Gerard Segú, UNESCO Director in Catalonia. It was also used to premiere the ‘making of’ video of the school’s 50th anniversary song created by the musician from Manresa, Xavier Serrano, a school parent. This song was performed by musicians, alumni and current students in the upper levels.
At around 7 pm, the event moved to the spaces of La Fàbrica, when everyone who has been a part of life at Oms i de Prat School was able to gather together again. The festive atmosphere was accompanied by music from the band RuBBersoul, the Rivers Tribute, which played covers of Beatles tunes.
