50 secondary school students from Catalonia participate in a new edition of the ‘Youths and Science’ programme which got underway Saturday at Món Sant Benet.

Youths with drive, interest, curiosity and a commitment to science. Yet another year, 50 secondary school students with a clear scientific vocation, chosen among the 900 applicants, were selected to participate in a new edition of the Youths and Science programme which the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation has been sponsoring since 2008.
The launch of the new edition - the 12th - took place Saturday at Món Sant Benet with 300 people attending, including the participating students and their families. The event welcomed the 50 applicants chosen this year (28 girls and 22 boys) and said good-bye to the students who have completed the programme, which lasts 3 years and brings youths into contact with the top research centres both in Spain and abroad.
Dr. Marta Lacambra, director of the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation, was in charge of welcoming the participants and opening the event. Next came a lecture by Dr Mònica H. Pérez-Temprano, a group leader at the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ), one of the centres participating in the programme, along with a chance to listen to the experiences of students Román Via-Dufresne, a participant in the third and final phase, and Adrià Martín Salvador from the 2014 class.
After the students in the 2017 class who are finishing their participation in the programme this year were awarded their diplomas, Mr director of Knowledge and Research at the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation, closed the event with a few words for the participants.
